One avoidable mistake can cost more than this whole library.

Time

Hours worked before you register as an apprentice count {{fact:apprentice.hours_start}}. A year of work before registering is a year with no credit toward your license. Every week you wait is a week that doesn't count.

Fines

Texas can fine {{fact:penalty.civil}} per violation, and per day after notice. The first page of every estimate needs exact wording, and your trucks have a minimum letter size. It is easy to miss, and the penalty doesn't care.

Margin

Employees never see overhead. On example numbers, charging $90 an hour when your real cost is $120.24 loses $30.24 on every hour you bill, on a full schedule. A busy shop can still lose money.

This library costs $130, once.

The whole ladder, on one page.

Four steps. Every number cited.

  1. Apprentice

Register first, then count hours. Age {{fact:apprentice.min_age}}+, {{fact:apprentice.fee}}. You work with {{fact:apprentice.supervision}}.

  2. Journeyman

{{fact:journeyman.hours}} under a Responsible Master Plumber, {{fact:journeyman.training}} of approved training, and the exam.

  3. Master

{{fact:master.experience}}, plus the exam. Then you can work unsupervised.

  4. Owner

A company needs a Responsible Master Plumber to offer plumbing at all: a Master with {{fact:rmp.insurance_min}} of liability insurance on file. The owner and the license holder can be different people.

Your first 90 days, laid out.

A Journeyman license does not let you run a company on your own. It does open four legal routes to running your own work. The playbook shows each one, and the order to do things.

  1. Day 1

Choose your route: employee, subcontractor with your own truck, owner with a hired Master, or owner who is the Master.

  2. Day 30

Protected. Insurance quoted, agreements reviewed by an attorney, billing format chosen with your accountant.

  3. Day 60

Set up. Entity, bank, insurance bound, trucks lettered, estimates with the required block, permit sheets for your cities.

  4. Day 90

Working. First jobs costed, reviews coming in, weekly numbers on, and your Master date on the calendar.

Run the whole business, not just the work.

Sixteen lessons, five tools and sixteen templates. Built for the phone in your truck, with every rule one tap from its source.

Every rule shows its work.

Public guides we checked disagreed with each other on basic Texas facts, including hours, fees and even the year the licensing board ends. Here, each rule links to the statute or board rule it came from, with the date we last checked it. Where sources conflict, we say so.

Built with a working Texas plumber.

    Christian, Master Plumber

I was 18, out of my parents' house, with no real high school education to show for it, and I needed money. I walked into a plumbing and AC company with a screwdriver and a plastic bucket. I dug trenches ten hours a day before anyone let me set a toilet.

I learned from the Journeymen on the trucks. The Master who ran the company stayed in the office. I made the rookie mistakes: I flooded a bathroom, cracked toilets, and didn't log my apprenticeship hours with the state, which cost me months of credit.

Every time a license became possible, I took it. I went out on my own as a subcontractor, learned business the hard way, and earned my Master license at 25. Nobody handed me a playbook. This is the one I wish I'd had.

Who it's for, and what it isn't.

    It's for

    • Apprentices who want the whole path before they spend a year on the wrong job
    • Journeymen and masters planning to go out on their own
    • New owners with one to three trucks who want the paperwork and numbers right

    It isn't

    • A board-approved course. It does not count toward training, continuing education or exam eligibility.
    • Plumbing instruction or exam preparation
    • Legal, tax or insurance advice

    It won't

    • Promise income. Your market, work and numbers decide that.
    • Replace a Texas attorney, CPA or insurance agent for the big decisions
    • Stay frozen. Rules change, and so does this library.

    One payment. Yours to keep.

    Questions, answered.

Can I run my own plumbing business as soon as I have my Journeyman license?
Not by yourself, and anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing. In Texas a company needs a Responsible Master Plumber to offer plumbing to the public, and only that Master pulls permits. A Journeyman can still run their own work legally: as a subcontractor under a written agreement, or by owning a company that employs a Master as its RMP, or by becoming a Master after two years. The playbook shows each route and its numbers.
How is this different from blogs and videos?
Every Texas rule links to the statute or board rule it came from, with the date it was checked. It adds calculators for your real numbers, templates, and a plan in order. Where sources disagree, it says so instead of picking one.
    Is the information current?
Every Texas fact carries the date it was checked and a link to its source. Where the licensing board's own pages disagree, or a change is only proposed (for example the move to the 2021 plumbing codes), we flag it. You get 12 months of updates.
Does it count toward training, continuing education or the exam?
No. Only providers and instructors approved by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners can deliver those. This library explains the requirements and teaches the business side. It has no exam questions and no plumbing technique.
Is it only for Houston or Dallas?
The licensing, insurance and paperwork rules here are statewide. Each city adds its own permits and codes. The library teaches how to check yours and gives you a one-page sheet per city.
Does it cover marketing and AI?
Yes. There are lessons on getting customers (your Google profile, reviews, local ads, referrals, call handling, and the rules your ads must follow) and on using AI in your business, with the legal rules and a prompt library.
Can my whole crew use one purchase?
A purchase is for one person on up to 3 devices. Crew licenses are planned.
What if I find a mistake?
Tell us. The Accuracy Promise means we correct a reported rule error within 7 days.
    What is your refund policy?
All sales are final because you get everything instantly. That is why there is a free lesson, a free planner and previews of every template. Four exceptions: an accidental purchase you never unlocked (within 24 hours), a billing error, an access failure we can't fix, or a missing feature or material error we don't correct. Read the policy.
    Is this legal advice?
No. It's educational information. For contracts, taxes and insurance, talk to a Texas attorney, a CPA and an insurance agent. The library tells you when.
    Who is behind it?
Christian, a Texas Master Plumber who started as an 18-year-old helper and went out on his own as a subcontractor. His story is in the section above. The rules in this library come from the Texas statute and the plumbing board, not from memory.
